Photographing weddings can present the most wonderful surprises. Last year Nicole contacted me to see if I was available for her sister’s Carolina Beach wedding on May 18th, 2013. She immediately followed up to book me. No consultation. Minimal email correspondence. I hadn’t even talked with the bride, Keri. In many respects, I thought that was pretty cool. I mean, I’m pretty good at this, right? Well, as the months drew near it was time for details, and that meant reaching out to Keri & the family. I always assemble my team based on discussion with bride & wedding planner. In this case it was Keri, her mom & sister. Based on their feedback I went with Donnell, my faithful photographic assistant, and Sean, our 2nd shooter. You never want too many or too few, and each ceremony is different. We arrived and this is where the wonderful surprises begin. Keri’s mom greeted me and made me feel comfortable right away. You have no idea how important that is. Everyone was busy getting ready and after quick introductions with the bridal party, I finally met the bride! It’s important to me to quickly establish rapport. I want my brides to trust me and that came quickly & easily, even having to do so on Keri’s big day. We went right to work documenting the day, and it was a blast! Just look at how beautiful Matt + Keri’s Carolina Beach wedding ceremony was!
