Last fall, I had the pleasure, and I do mean pleasure, of being the wedding photographer for a love story in Fayetteville, NC. A story rich with love not only between bride & groom, but also of all levels of family & friends. It was truly one of those days as a wedding photographer were you have to pinch yourself to see if you’re dreaming. For me it started over 15 months ago when Randol + Patricia met with me here at the studio for their wedding photography consultation. Patricia knew exactly what she wanted, and Randol was on the same page with her. A few months later we made arrangements for their engagement session at Duke Gardens. After that I was certain that these two were special. Patricia was kind enough to share “Insights from the Bride”, so below, in addition to their wedding images, you’ll hear their story first hand from the bride!
Share with us how you two met:
Randol and Patricia met at Barton College in Wilson, NC. Patricia was a freshman coming in to start pre-season for soccer. Randol, a sophmore at the time, was getting ready to start pre-season for soccer as well. At “move in” day Patricia stepped onto an elevator where she first saw and met Randol. They became friends and eventually fell in love!
Randol had told Patricia that he had to coach in a soccer tournament near Charlotte, NC. He asked her to come along to keep him company for the weekend. She agreed and they set off towards Charlotte. As they were approaching Charlotte, Randol took an exit which lead to back roads and more back roads. As they came to a stop in front of a large field, Patricia asked if they were lost and if they needed to call for directions. Randol just smiled and told her to get out of the car. They started to walk towards a couple and their van that were in the middle of the field. As they got close Patricia saw that the couple was getting ready to blow up a hot air balloon! As they flew in the air, Randol got on one knee and popped the question. It was truly a beautiful day.
Wedding Photographer Fayetteville
When I arrived at Patricia’s parent’s home, I was warmly greeted by everyone. Patricia was having her make up done by Carmen Johnson, an awesome make up artist in Fayetteville. As you can see, she was very pleased. She looked angelic!
Tell us about your hair & make up?
Having the hair and make up done was one of the best parts of my day. The bridesmaids and I had Carmen and her hair/make up team come over to my family’s house that morning, where we all got our hair and make up done. I had my hair up and to the side in order to show the delicate neck line of my dress. I wanted natural looking makeup, and Carmen did a great job at doing that.
Tell us about your bridesmaids …
I chose 9 bridesmaids to have in my wedding. I attended college and played soccer with 4 of the girls. The other 5 were family which consisted of my sister-in-law, Randol’s sister, Randol’s cousin, and my 2 cousins. They were a fun group of girls. They made everything so easy for me that day and throughout the whole planning.
And His groomsmen …
Randol’s groomsmen consisted of family and close friends. They are a fun bunch of guys who all looked so handsome in their tuxedos. Before the wedding they all played soccer and got ready at the hotel. Many of them had traveled from afar to attend the wedding.
Fayetteville Wedding Planners
The wedding day progressed smoothly in large part due to the Fayetteville wedding planning team Designs that Dazzle. Awesome work Edna!
How / why did you choose your ceremony venue?
Having her father in the military, Patricia and her family had lived on Fort Bragg for just over 10 years. It felt like home to have the ceremony on Fort Bragg, being that Patricia lived there and attended the Main Post Chapel for the majority of her life. Patricia witnessed a beautiful wedding there when she was younger, and knew that the Main Post Chapel was where she would want to one day be married.
Was there any particular theme or style for your wedding?
We did not really have a particular theme. We did stick to the colors: gold, dark shades of pink and a variety of different purples. We wanted the wedding to be elegant, and felt that those colors were just right.
Tell us about your flowers …<
We wanted to have fresh flowers that had some shades of purple in them. We left everything else up to the florist, knowing that he would make something amazing. The flowers had some shades of purple and pink. Their stems were wrapped in a satin and sheer purple ribbon. They were so much more prettier than I had expected.
What’s your favorite image from your wedding day, and why?
Our favorite image took place in the church. Randol and I are blowing our heads down in prayer. It is an image that was taken from the side and in the background you can see the Blessed Virgin Mary. It is a moving picture.
What songs did you choose for your wedding ceremony and reception, and why?
We chose a wide range of songs for our reception. We had a latin music, guests participation music, some hip-hop, New Orleans jazz music, and more. Randol’s family is from Honduras and a lot of his friends are from New Orleans. Both of our families enjoy dancing so we wanted music that would get them all out on the dance floor. I should also mention that my father brought his own set of instruments to get the party going. That made the reception even more enjoyable.
Tell us about your reception venue
We had our reception at the Fort Bragg Club, which was a short distance from the church. The majority of the guests took the shuttle buses to the reception from the church, which made everything flow smoothly.
And your decorations
The reception room was decorated beautifully. There were different shades of purple lighting all on the walls, candles were lit, flowers and petals were on the tables with crinkled table cloths. I didn’t recognize the room at all when we first walked into the room.
And your cake
We had a large cake that had the colors purple and gold. We included a fleur-de-lis on the cake because Randol lived in Louisiana for some time. It had small gold flowers on the cake and was topped with the letter M.

I was fortunate to work with a couple of great Fayetteville wedding photographers and photo assistants on this day to help capture great moments from optimal perspectives. Thank you Faith & Jacquelyn!
How about your photography …
We went to Dajuan Jones for our photography. We couldn’t be happier with our decision. Him and his team were everywhere to capture every possible moment. The pictures came out amazing and we felt very at ease with him and his team!
Tell us about your honeymoon
We went to Punta Cana, Domincan Republic for our honeymoon. It was the most beautiful/relaxing vacation ever. The music, food, and people were amazing. We ventured off the resort and went on excursions that gave us tours around the city and countryside. It was wonderful.
Any advice for future brides?
Enjoy every single moment! From planning to the end. It goes by far faster than you an ever imagine. :o)
Would you share a memorable moment?
Celebrating the last song of the night with “I finally found you,” by Enrique Iglesias. Our whole family was out there and we were all arm in arm with one another. We were all coming together as one family, and it felt magical.
Any final thoughts?
I’m so blessed to have such wonderful people in my life. We truly felt blessed when we met Dajuan, our photographer. He was so patient and such a good listener. He did not judge any of our ideas and very easily went with the flow of everything.
