The Umstead Hotel really is a special place to have your wedding ceremony. With a nice mix of interior style and beautiful open outdoor arrangements, you simply need to arrive, relax, wed and be merry! And that is exactly what Darrell and Christine did for their Umstead Hotel wedding. Well, I’d say they added an extra emphasis on style!
Umstead Hotel Wedding
Christine agreed to share “insights from the bride”! This is one of my favorite things to share, along with the images from their Umstead wedding of course.
Tell us about your proposal:
It was Christmas Eve and the kids were sleep. My mom, her husband, Darrell and I had just got done playing Santa Clause by wrapping gifts. Darrell said he wanted to give me my gift early. To my surprise he got on one knee at 12 am Christmas Day and in front of my family he asked me to marry him.
How / why did you choose the Umstead Hotel as your ceremony & reception venue?
Tell us about your flowers …
My flowers were by Victorian Seasons. I kept the flowers simple because the venue was so beautiful. My flowers were mostly pink and white hydrangea and roses.
And your gown …
My gown I loved. It was made by Vera Wang.
And your shoes (and jewelry)…
My shoes were by Vera Wang as well. My bracelet during the wedding was a pearl piece that was my mothers. My Jewelry was a mix of Vera again and Carolee.
Tell us about your hair & make up?
My make up was done by Sharon Davis. (S. Davis Makeup Artistry) and my hair done by Chabella (The people’s choice). They were both wonderful.
Tell us about your bridesmaids …
Our wedding party was made up of our kids. My oldest daughter was a bridesmaid and our two girls were the flower girls.
And His groomsmen …
His oldest son
And your decorations?
We had some linen from CE rentals. But mostly, we utilize the flowers and natural scenery outside as decoration. The place was so beautiful that we did not do much.
What songs did you choose for your wedding ceremony and reception, and why?
Although we are not a tradition couple. I choose tradition songs for the ceremony. Those songs like Cannon in D and Jonathan Cain’s bridal March, just set the right atmosphere for our wedding.
I love it when my clients allow time for bride & groom alone portraits during the wedding day. Darrell + Christine allowed for just enough time to capture some great images of them taking in their Umstead Hotel wedding.
How about your photography …
I told Dajuan in the very beginning that he had his work cut out for him. I am a person that does not like taking pictures because I believe that I am not photogenic. I was so relaxed and comfortable during the whole experience. I don’t know what he did but my pictures came out beautiful. He was able to capture our wedding story with moments we will cherish forever.
And your cake …
Cinda’s Creative Cakes. Her cake and customer service are great!!!!
Any advice for future brides?
Relax, live in the moment, and surround yourself with people you love.
Would you share a memorable moment?
My most memorable moment was when we were announced Mr. & Mrs. Debnam. Even though we have been together for a long time we are still on cloud nine.
What’s your favorite image from your wedding day, and why?
There are so many. But my favorite image is a picture of Darrell and I with our change of clothes on. I just love the picture.
