Mayton Inn Engagement Session
Share with us how you two met:
Maurice and I met on the campus of East Carolina University back in 1998 after a party. I initially noticed him on stage at a step show performing with his fraternity a few weeks earlier; he caught my eye!! I even told my friends who were accompanying me at the show, “That’s my husband!” Chance didn’t allow our paths to cross that night, but it did a few weeks later after a party on campus. Two of our friends assisted in the introduction, we exchanged numbers, and it went from there. We dated for several years on and off but we eventually went our separate ways due to timing and immaturity on both sides. We were 19 and 21 when we met, so we both had a lot of growing up to do. After several mistakes, lessons learned, and many years of being apart; we eventually reconnected as friends back in 2014. Our love for each other never left. Our friendship grew into a beautiful relationship and the rest is history. In our case, timing was definitely everything!!
Tell us about your proposal:
Maurice had recently gotten a promotion from middle school to high school Principal. I was ecstatic for him and decided that I was going to take him out on a date to celebrate his accomplishment. We planned the date for 12/30/16. We decided that we were going to a restaurant that we had talked about trying a few months earlier. So, we made reservations at Babylon; a Mediterranean restaurant in downtown Raleigh. We arrived to the restaurant and were immediately seated. We had a nice dinner and I gave him a congratulatory card and a necktie that were the colors of the new school where he would be Principal. The waiter came to get our dessert order, so we conversed while awaiting dessert. All of a sudden; I notice the waiter coming towards our table with a beautiful bouquet of red roses followed by our dessert plate. The plate was placed on the table in front of me. The words “Will you Marry Me?” were scripted in chocolate. I was so shocked, but I knew that something was about to go down once I noticed the roses coming towards me!! Maurice got up, came over to my side of the table, got down on one knee with my gorgeous ring in hand, and asked me to be his wife! Of course, I said, “Yes” and we shared a beautiful kiss!! The other patrons and restaurant staff celebrated with us. The restaurant and a few patrons treated us to drinks. Afterwards, we just sat together and cherished the moment in between calls and texts to family and friends to share the good news!! It was a beautiful night!!
