I just realized that this is the first wedding photography preview gallery that I’m sharing on the new In His Image Photography website. And seriously, I honored to have Melvin + Dawn’s Proximity Hotel wedding be the premier wedding post! For those following me as I artistically capture key moments in the lives my clients, you may remember their Duke Gardens engagement session. Well, it’s been a year, and I’ve been not so patiently waiting for their wedding day to arrive. You see, when I met this couple, I knew this was special. Their chemistry. Their style. I was pretty excited. Now their day has come and I have some awesome wedding images to show for it. I’ll start things off with one of Dawn’s favorite images her wedding day!
Proximity Hotel wedding
Dawn was kind enough to share “Insights from the Bride”. So if you are so inclined, read a little about their day and how they got here. But, be careful, love is contagious!
How they met:
Dawn and Melvin first met in 2007 on the campus of East Carolina University. For Melvin it was love at first site, and for Dawn, she like what she saw but still needed more convincing. Unfortunately, life happened and they went their own separate ways. Dawn and Melvin began communicating while Melvin was deployed in Iraq, it was then that a strong friendship began to grow. In early 2009, they were reunited and started to date. Within the first few months of being together, they knew it was meant to be. As the years and months went by, they grew closer and closer to each other.
On Saturday, May 7th, 2011 Dawn along with both Melvin and their Families attended Melvin’s college graduation. Following the graduation Melvin took Dawn on a private flight over Greenville, NC. Melvin had convinced Dawn that he wanted to do this as a way to end his college career. As they neared ECU, Melvin pointed out Dowdy-Flicklen Stadium. On the ground were his fraternity brothers and a huge sign that read “WILL YOU MARRY ME”. Once Dawn calmed down enough to respond she of course said YES! Melvin being the traditionalist that he is still got on one knee once they hit the ground, and in front of their family he place the ring on Dawn’s finger.
How / why did you choose your ceremony venue?
We chose Proximity Hotel because it was different like us but had a classic modern feel with a splash of vintage . . . Oh and great food.
Was there any particular theme or style for your wedding?
Not originally but as it evolved it was more of a simple, elegant, and vintage style that had a very personal and original touch.
Tell us about your flowers …
I love Big so I wanted everyone to essentially be holding a big pom pom
And your gown …
It loved the shape and style the buttons down the back of the dress end the simple embellishments. I never understood the it feeling about a wedding dress until i tried on this dress.
And your shoes (and jewelry)…
My mother’s dress was purple and I wanted shoes that were the same color so it was like having a part of my mother on my wedding day (instead of something borrowed) The jewelry complimented the dress and had a vintage feel.
Tell us about your hair & make up?
Simple and Classy
Tell us about your bridesmaids …
All of our bridesmaids and my maid of honor were my sisters and we are all very very close. My matron of honor was my cousin was my older cousin and since I’m the oldest she very much my older sister.
And His groomsmen …
The grooms men were his Fraternity brothers and have been with him through a lot and are like blood. They are so different yet share a lot of similarities.
Any wedding favors?
We donated to the Wounded Warrior Project, as Melvin, My parents, and some of our friends have served and been deployed during war times.
How about the wedding invitations & stationery?
Much of the wedding invitations and stationary was made with recycled paper.
And you decorations
Favorite decorations were the Floating mobiles.
And you cake …
Red velvet cupcakes with silver cupcake wrappers. We wanted a small two tier cake to cut in order to keep that tradition.
What songs did you choose for your wedding ceremony and reception, and why?
Beautiful Surprise India Arie
Bride entrance: You for Me By Johnny Gill
When I found you: BeBe & CeCe Winans

All the songs feeling & lyrics fit who we are and the day
How about your photography …
