Last summer I received a note from Kadie who was planning her wedding with Benji in their home town of Bristol, Tennessee. Via email we quickly identified a custom wedding collection meeting their desires and leveraged our web based contracts to retain her date. I’d like to believe that I share enough about myself and the purpose behind the craft for potential clients to feel comfortable with our team. However I’m certain the addition of prayer and the confidence of His assurance played more than a small role in this awesome decision. The morning of their wedding day, Christina and I left from Apex and picked up Rod in Winston Salem, then enjoyed the beautiful mountain scenery that lead into Bristol, TN. Yet the landscape paled in comparison to the day that lay ahead at the First Presbyterian Church where Benji + Kadie’s family and friends had assembled for the long awaited marriage of these high school sweethearts. We met Kadie and her bridesmaids at her family’s place, then quickly headed to the church where Benji and the fellas were
playing football preparing. After some quick introductions, and a tour of the venue, we began documenting the first day of marriage between Benji + Kadie. And in addition to their beautiful wedding images, we have their wedding story as told by the bride + groom!
Bristol TN Wedding
Insights from the bride & groom!
Share with us how you two met:
We went to high school together. Benji was a senior and I was a freshmen. We didn’t actually start dating until a few years after that when I was a junior in high school and Benji was in college a few hours away. We dated mostly long distance for the first 3 or 4 years. It was tough but I think ultimately gave us a strong foundation. We dated for a little over 5 years before we got engaged.
Tell us about your marriage proposal:
It was the day before Easter, I emphasize that it was the day before because I had told Benji I didn’t like holiday proposals (haha). So Benji came to my house with an Easter basket which was not out of the ordinary because we usually exchanged Easter baskets. There was one orange egg, which is my favorite color, that had my ring in it. When I opened that egg he got down on a knee and proposed.
How / why did you choose your wedding ceremony venue:
We chose First Presbyterian Church because we both really like the pastor there, Gordon. Turnbull. He is a down to earth Christian man that we both feel comfortable around. Plus, the church is beautiful!
Tell us about his groomsmen:
I (Benji) had 5 groomsmen. Best man, Hunter Perrin, is a friend from high school that we became close on the football team because he was he kicker and I was the holder. Charlie is also a long time friend who I played football with. Danny is a good friend that i enjoy playing golf with. Hunter Stine and I met at basketball and we have been friends ever since. Landon is Kadie’s brother who I consider as my brother now. And finally, the bearer, Eli, is Kadie’s youngest brother who proudly carried the rings in a box the he picked out for us.
Tell us about your wedding flowers:
A great friend of the family who is very talented with floral arrangements, Carol Absher, designed everything as her wedding gift to us.
Tell us about your wedding gown:
My gown was from David’s Bridal in Johnson City, TN. My decision came down to 2 dresses and I chose mine because of the way it complimented my body shape and it was comfortable.
How about your wedding shoes and jewelry:
Benji’s grandmother gave the earrings I wore as a Christmas gift, Benji gave me the necklace on our first Christmas together, and I specially ordered the shoes to fit my taste from Etsy.
Tell us about your hair & make up:
My grandmother did my hair which was very special to me. My grandmother was very sick a few years ago, so I didn’t know if she would even be able to be there for my big day. She is doing great now, and was able todso a beautiful job on my hair. That’s a memory that I will never forget. My makeup was done by a talented friend, Stephanie Absher, as her wedding gift to us.
Tell us about your bridesmaids:
I had 7 bridesmaids. My maid of honor, Kathryn, is one of my roommates from college. We grew very close while living together and she knows me so well. My junior maid of honor is my sister, Shelley, who I am so glad could play this special role. Kelsey is my cousin, college roommate, and one of my very best friends since I can remember. Paige and I spent almost every day together in middle school and high school and have so many great memories. Andee is also a good friend of mine from high school and we have stayed very close even as we went to different colleges after high school. Rachael is a friend I met in college and we hit it off right away because we have so much in common. And last but not least, my junior bridesmaid is my littlest sister Abby. Abby is my mini-me and got to walk our flower girl, Harper, into the ceremony.
What songs did you choose for your wedding ceremony and reception, and why:
For the ceremony, I walked down the aisle to an instrumental version of The Eagles ‘Best of My Love’ because The Eagles music has always been something my dad and I have shared an interest in. So it was really special to have my dad walk me down the aisle to that song. Also, Benji and I exited to an instrumental version of Michael Buble’ ‘Everything’ because it is a very meaningful song to both of us.
What’s your favorite image from your wedding day, and why:
Benji’s: Kadie and I walking out of the church smiling at our friends and family on either side.
Kadie’s: I am torn between all of the bubble pictures and the black and white one where Benji is looking down at me smiling.
Any wedding favors:
We gave out ‘Seed bombs’ that had a note that said ‘watch love grow.’ The seed bombs were made of wildflower seeds.
And your cake:
Both cakes were made by Cakes by Amber. She did an excellent job and gave us exactly what we wanted.
Was there any particular theme or style for your wedding:
Both of us being Tennesee Vols fans, we knew we had to incorporate orange into the color scheme.
Tell us about your wedding photography:
The photography was one of the most important aspects for me as the bride. I did a lot of research and decided on In His Image Photography. Dajuan and his team were the best! We really enjoyed working with them and got so many beautiful images to remember our wedding day. They exceeded my expectations.
Tell us about your honeymoon:
For our honeymoon, we spent a few days in Charleston, SC exploring the city. We then drove to Jacksonville, FL for a 4 day cruise to the Bahamas. Both places were great, and our only regret is that we couldn’t spend more time in each place.
Would you share a memorable moment:
Kadie’s: Right after the ceremony waiting to walk out of the church through the bubbles having that brief minute to talk to my new husband and realizing WE ARE MARRIED!!!!!!!!!
Benji’s: Seeing my beautiful bride waking down the aisle.
Any advice for future brides:
Keep it simple and make it your own.
Any final thoughts:
We really love that In His Image Photography is faith-based because it really shows in the quality of their work.
