Photographing weddings can present the most wonderful surprises. Last year Nicole contacted me to see if I was available for her sister’s Carolina Beach wedding on May 18th, 2013. She immediately followed up to book me. No consultation. Minimal email correspondence. I hadn’t even talked with the bride, Keri. In many respects, I thought that was pretty cool. I mean, I’m pretty good at this, right? Well, as the months drew near it was time for details, and that meant reaching out to Keri & the family. I always assemble my team based on discussion with bride & wedding planner. In this case it was Keri, her mom & sister. Based on their feedback I went with Donnell, my faithful photographic assistant, and Sean, our 2nd shooter. You never want too many or too few, and each ceremony is different. We arrived and this is where the wonderful surprises begin. Keri’s mom greeted me and made me feel comfortable right away. You have no idea how important that is. Everyone was busy getting ready and after quick introductions with the bridal party, I finally met the bride! It’s important to me to quickly establish rapport. I want my brides to trust me and that came quickly & easily, even having to do so on Keri’s big day. We went right to work documenting the day, and it was a blast! Just look at how beautiful Matt + Keri’s Carolina Beach wedding ceremony was!
One of the perks of being a wedding photographer in Raleigh includes meeting some pretty awesome people. That absolutely rings true for Michael + Julia. I made their acquaintance in pretty short order, just three weeks before their wedding day. Michael reached out to me based on a recommendation from a fellow professional photographer. He and Julia had made arrangements to wed at The Mahler Fine Art gallery downtown Raleigh. How cool is that? Well, during the wedding day I came to learn that this couple exudes a coolness that defies gravity, and tradition. I could share with you how smart they are by way of advanced degrees. I could even share how artistic they are by way of the performing arts. But I’d rather focus on them together, and their wedding day, which they did their way. Just Michael + Julia, later joined by an amazing group of friends and family! And a smooth jazz wedding reception at the Busy Bee Cafe!
Last fall, I had the pleasure, and I do mean pleasure, of being the wedding photographer for a love story in Fayetteville, NC. A story rich with love not only between bride & groom, but also of all levels of family & friends. It was truly one of those days as a wedding photographer were you have to pinch yourself to see if you’re dreaming. For me it started over 15 months ago when Randol + Patricia met with me here at the studio for their wedding photography consultation. Patricia knew exactly what she wanted, and Randol was on the same page with her. A few months later we made arrangements for their engagement session at Duke Gardens. After that I was certain that these two were special. Patricia was kind enough to share “Insights from the Bride”, so below, in addition to their wedding images, you’ll hear their story first hand from the bride!
The Umstead Hotel really is a special place to have your wedding ceremony. With a nice mix of interior style and beautiful open outdoor arrangements, you simply need to arrive, relax, wed and be merry! And that is exactly what Darrell and Christine did for their Umstead Hotel wedding. Well, I’d say they added an extra emphasis on style!
A college crush rekindled. That is how I’d summarize the coming together of Brian + Sara, celebrated at The Hall and Gardens at Landmark in Garner, NC. The two met and were friends in college, then after some time, they reconnected. Patience has it’s rewards, and Brian’s reward was his as they exchanged vows at the St. Mark AME Zion Church in Durham, NC. As is usually the case, the bride (Sara) contacted me hoping that I was available to document her wedding day. Now bride’s, you don’t want to wait until your a couple months away from your big day to schedule us. But for Sara, it worked out fine because her wedding day was set for early December which is traditionally a slower month for wedding photographers! We immediately jumped in planning mode with Sara and her wedding planner, Renita from All Things Social. The rest was absolutely beautiful. Just see for yourself!
It is late in the year which typically means that it is getting pretty cold in a good portion of the country. So I’ve decided to warm things up with a few weddings I’ve photographed earlier in the year. I’ll begin with Nolan + Stacy’s wedding where I assisted Cara of F8 Photo Studios at Saint David’s School and The Pavilions at the Angus Barn back in June.
Class and style collided for Travis + Juliann’s City Club Raleigh wedding (previously the Cardinal Club) in downtown Raleigh. You may recall this couple from their American Tobacco Campus engagement photography session. At that time they had traveled in from Georgia in planning their day of celebration. But today their wedding planning was coming to fruition, and what a beautiful day it was. They laughed, they cried, they partied, they took some awesome wedding day photos and then they partied some more!
The day had come that Robert, Jr. and Isioma would pledge themselves to one another in Holy matrimony. Their family and friends had traveled from far and near to witness and celebrate their coming together at the Brier Creek Country Club in Raleigh, NC. A great amount of planning went into preparing for their wedding … Read more
