Yolanda sent me a note May of last year inquiring about availability for their April 2013 Barclay Villa wedding. She shared that she’d seen photos that we’ve done for couples she knew. Of course I provided her the details she requested, but I had no idea that simple note would lead to so much fun! Turns out that Yolanda’s mother was a bridesmaid in a vow renewal I photographed at the Hall and Gardens at Landmark. I later found out that there were other connections too. Honestly, this just felt … comfortable. When my team arrived on their wedding day, it was the usual busy getting ready time at Barclay Villa. I approached the bridal chamber to find Yolanda’s gown & shoes, and immediately got to work! It was obvious the quality of the relationships between Yolanda and her friends and family. From the warmth of their affections, to the richness of their humor: I just loved it all! Enough of my talking, seeing for yourself:

And now Insight’s from the Bride!
Share with us how you two met:
We meet in college at North Carolina A&T. (Aggie Pride) We both were on the executive board of an campus ministry called Y.T.C, our friendship grow because we both served together on the e-board. I had no idea he was interested in me, we used to just play X-box 360 together, Call of Duty to be exact. I thought of him as a video game buddy. Then one day he asked could he cook for me, then I finally figured he liked me.
Tell us about your proposal:
Jashaun proposed at Barclay Villa, the day before my birthday. He wanted to propose at the place in which we were getting married. At first when he got down on his knee I thought he was joking. Before he proposed he would joke about it.
Why did you choose Barclay Villa for your wedding & reception venue?
I wanted a castle like feel for the venue.
Was there any particular theme or style for your wedding?
The venue was a castle so why not have a fairy tale theme.
Tell us about your gown:
I wanted something that would show my figure but elegant at the same thing. It was a sweet heart nice line, fitted at the top and then flowed out at the bottom. I loved the neckline and the detail at the top.
And your shoes (and jewelry):
I did not want to wear white shoes so I choose purple. Then I blinged them out myself. I thought it would be easy to put the rhinestones on myself, but it was a little harder than I thought. But it was worth the time. For my jewelry, I wanted something that sparkled.

Tell us about your bridesmaids …
Candice is like my big sister, I have known her forever. Tajania is my god-sister and Sequoia is Jashaun’s sister. Shavonte and Sharonda are the two characters in the group, when we hang out together, there is always much silliness and laughter. We always have a good time. I love all of you guys.
Any wedding favors?
The wedding favors where vintage style keys, that are bottle openers. I wanted something cool and unique.
How about the wedding invitations & stationery?
I loved the wedding invitations. We used scrolls for the invitation, I wanted it to be like in fairy tales when the king sends out scrolls to invite guest to royal events.
Tell us about your wedding cake?
The cake was delicious, even tho we only have one bit of it, literally.
Tell us about your honeymoon?
The honeymoon was wonderful, we had an awesome time. We did a 7 day cruise and visited the beautiful sands of the Eastern Caribbean. We did jet-skiing which was a tad bit scary but so much fun.
What’s your favorite image from your wedding day, and why?
There are so many to choose from. I look like picture at night outside the castle with him dipping me.
Would you share a memorable moment?
I’ll share the funniest moment. We did a sparkler farewell and Jashuan and I tired to make a heart shape with the sparklers. Jashaun says to the photographer, (but he probably didn’t hear) you have to slow down the shutter. I look at him and say “he knows that, he’s a professional” and I laugh and one of my friends busts out laughing.
Most memorable moment was doing the Harlem Shake. Watching it was hilarious.
Any final thoughts?
The wedding was beautiful and we had so much fun at the wedding and on the honeymoon. Getting married was the best decision we ever made.
